CFER Research Facilities

If you are interested in joining CFER, you must contact Jeremy Kerr. It If you are serious about CFER in particular, then distinguishing your query from the generic will be helpful. We receive a lot of really vague requests (e.g. "Dear Professor, I like your work and think my marvellous molecular biological skills will be just the thing you need for your work."). Instead, be specific. Why do you want to work with us? What are your unique skills and interests? How do they fit with the goals and interests we describe on this web site? Write a short statement (a page or less) demonstrating that you have evaluated our research meaningfully and thought about how your interests fit with our work.

Do you have scholarship potential? Grad students are funded to a minimum standard of $18,000/year, which means your salary has to come from somewhere. NSERC and OGS scholarships are common sources of funds for excellent grad students, freeing up limited operating funds to support research rather than pay salary. If you don't have your own funds, it is less likely your application can be accepted. In this case, you will need to demonstrate that you are extremely motivated. Unfortunately, even the best students with no scholarship funding cannot often be accepted. Other sources of funds must be successfully sought before most students could be accepted.
